We are a female led, mission-driven company based in the heart of the cinnamon farms of Ceylon. We live and breathe cinnamon with a rich history that goes back centuries, and we believe that you deserve the very best cinnamon that our island has to offer.

For us, it’s a centuries old artform passed down from generation to generation, refined and perfected through years of know-how and knowledge. As the guardians of true Ceylon cinnamon, Ground Spirit was founded with the intention of passing our expertise directly from our roots to your soul, cutting out all of the middlemen, contaminations and dilutions of large scale production, without an extortionate price tag. We are farmers at heart with a passion for our craft and can’t wait to bring you, in our humble opinion, the best cinnamon in the world.

As farm owners, we can guarantee that our cinnamon comes directly from acres and acres of lush, green, Ceylon Cinnamon farmland without any questionable sources. All of our farms are maintained to USDA Organic and non-GMO standards.

As our international standard processing plant is located onsite, this unique set up ensures that Ground Spirit cinnamon is crafted, cut, ground and packed onsite. We pack as soon as it’s harvested, guaranteeing the freshest cinnamon with absolutely no risk of contamination or storage rot.

Female founded and powered by a 90% female workforce, Ground Spirit packs girl power into every pouch. By providing a source of regular income, we empower our women to be financially independent.

We provide extensive training to our workforce, providing employment for women who would otherwise struggle to find work in the local area. Our flexible part-time opportunities make it possible for mothers to remain in work, whilst also caring for their families.

Our History
Throughout history, Cinnamon was always thought to be pretty special. Traceable to 2000 BC in ancient Egypt, the spice was so revered during this time it was thought to be a gift fit only for the monarch and the deity with records noting it as a pious gift presented to the temple of Apollo at Miletus. As the only true source of cinnamon, Sri Lanka was a fiercely guarded source by traders of ancient times and remained a mystery for centuries.
When Portuguese traders finally landed in the 16th century, they commercialised the cultivation of the spice and protected their secret for over 100 years until the Dutch invasion on the island dislodged them from their monopoly. Crafted from the bark of the cinnamon tree, the Cinnamon has been sought after for its fragrance and medicinal benefits for well over a millennium.
Today, Cinnamon is used worldwide as an aromatic spice for cooking, creating fragrances and as a powerful medicine packed with healing properties. To this day, Sri Lanka remains the only single producer of true and pure Ceylon Cinnamon with an ancient knowledge passed down through generations.
